Undergraduate Student Paper and Poster Competitions

PAPER COMPETITION

The PSS Undergraduate Student Paper Competition in conjunction with the 60th Annual Meeting of the PSS invites submissions according to the following rules and guidelines:

Papers must be written by an undergraduate student or co-authored by undergraduate students, but may not be co-authored with graduate students or faculty. The paper must have sociological content and focus, but may be empirical, theoretical, or a critical review of the literature. Finally, the paper may not exceed 20 pages at 10 cpi or 12 pt, including tables, appendices, but excluding references.

Student papers will be judged by a committee on both content and presentation. Papers are evaluated on the following criteria 1) originality 2) clarity of arguments and 3) form (quality of writing, appropriate format, grammar, spelling etc.). The student paper competition award of $50 will be presented at the annual meeting luncheon on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

POSTER COMPETITION

Undergraduate students in sociology are eligible to submit research-based posters for presentation at the 2010 Pennsylvania Sociological Society Meetings. Students who completed their degrees in May 2010 and have graduated are still eligible to be considered for this opportunity.

Posters will be judged on the basis of content and presentation. The best poster will receive an award and prize.
